The creator of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, sells around 12 million shares for $2 billion

<p>Soon after outlining a plan to sell his shares over the following year, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos sold around 12 million shares of the online retail and cloud services giant for about $2 billion, according to a corporate filing on Friday.</p>

<p>The documents said that the transaction happened on Wednesday and Thursday.</p>
<p>Amazon said last week that Bezos will divest up to 50 million company shares.</p>
<p>The company’s most recent annual report said that the selling plan, which is contingent upon a few requirements, was approved on November 8, 2023, and would be finalized by January 31, 2025.</p>
<p>Bezos started Amazon as a bookshop in 1994. He left the firm as chief executive in 2021 and became executive chairman.</p>
<p>With a $200 billion net worth, he is now the second wealthiest person in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.</p>
