The 58th-ranked Hungarian and the reigning Spanish champion had to square up their score after the former lost their one previous encounter at the Rome Masters last year.

After winning 12 of the first 13 points in the second set and breaking twice in the first, Alcaraz never let his opponent get close to the fourth round match.

In only 75 minutes, the top seed eliminated 22 opponents to advance to the quarterfinals.

Following a lackluster beginning to the season and an ankle injury a few weeks before in Brazil, the 20-year-old seemed poised to pursue a potential second championship here.

“I won’t lie, I was anxious before the game,” Alcaraz said.

“I was playing against someone who defeated me in the Rome match when I had no chance.”

Alcaraz, nevertheless, was very happy with his effort and left victorious.

“Let’s say that it was almost flawless. I’m a better player, Alcaraz said.

However, I’m incredibly pleased with how I felt, how I played, and how I approached the game.

“I executed my movements and timing of the match very effectively. I was very good at timing the break spots up and down at the hardest times.

“I feel like my confidence is growing.”

With the victory over Marozsan, the world number two achieved his 50th Masters triumph and his eighth consecutive Indian Wells success.

To advance to the semi-finals, Alcaraz will play against Alexander Zverev, the sixth seed.

Overcoming windy circumstances, Zverev defeated Alex de Minaur 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 in two and a half hours to go into the round of eight.

Regarding the windy playing conditions, the German champion said, “I’m the worst player in the wind.” “Your shots are not felt by you.

“The most crucial thing is that I found a way and managed to accomplish it.”

Here, Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas was defeated 6-2, 6-4 by rising Czech prospect Jiri Lehecka, preventing him from making it to his second career quarterfinal.

The teenage player’s unexpected win came after he defeated fifth seed Andrey Rublev in the previous round.

Tsitsipas, whose performance this season has been lackluster, made it to the last eight in his Tennis Garden debut in 2018, but he hasn’t been able to repeat that feat.

Number 32 Lehecka, the January Adelaide champion and current player advancing to his first-ever Masters quarterfinal, defeated him in 78 minutes.

The winner of Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner’s matchup with Ben Shelton will be the opponent faced by the Czech, who has been training with a mental coach since the end of the previous season.

The 22-year-old Lehecka dominated right away, winning the first set with two breaks of Tsitsipas and dropping only four games when serving.

The Czech advanced on his first match point in the second after saving four break opportunities.

Anastasia Potapova defeated Dubai champion Jasmine Paolini 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 in the women’s fourth round, while Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 6-1 to go to the round of eight.
